The deeds of York County, Maine, are the oldest, continuous such archive in the United States. The earliest deeds were printed by order of the state in 18 volumes between 1887 and 1910, covering the years 1642 to 1737. (Volume XII was printed in two separate books.)
This is a RARE 19 volume COMPLETE set entitled "York Deeds", published at Portland 1887 through 1910. Only enough were printed for the public institutions of Maine. All books are bound with light brown leather and marbled boards bindings with red gilt labels. All pages and bindings are intact. Books range from Very Good to Good condition. Any defects to individual books noted below:
- Volume I: Owner name inscribed in ink. Pencil markings from previous bookseller. There is what appears to be a previous owner's stamp on spine, but is faded.
- Volume II: Owner name inscribed in ink. Faded stamp on spine.
- Volume III: Faded marbled cover. End paper cracking.
- Volume IV: Owner name inscribed in ink. Faded stamp on spine.
- Volume VII: Owner name inscribed in ink. End paper cracking.
- Volume XII (2nd): Bookplate inside front cover.
- Volume XIII: Pencil markings from previous bookseller.
- Volume XIV: Owner name inscribed in ink.
- Volume XV: Partial bookplate inside front cover.
- Volume XVI: Bookplate inside front cover.
- Volume XVII: Bookplate inside front cover.
